What Happens During a Home Euthanasia?
A dedicated vet will visit at a pre-arranged time, and explain the process to you.
We go out to your pet’s favourite spot - the couch, out in the backyard, or wherever they are most comfortable.
A gentle sedation is given to ensure your pet is calm, relaxed and pain-free. This can be given while you cuddle them and give them their favourite treats.
An IV catheter is placed and when everyone is ready, medications are given to deepen the anaesthesia and ensure that they peacefully slip away in the comfort of your arms.
A clipping of fur can be taken for you and other memorial keepsakes, and if you’ve requested cremation, we will organise careful transport to the crematorium for your pet.

Deciding on home euthanasia for your beloved pet is a deeply personal and emotional choice. Common signs that it may be time to consider euthanasia include significant pain, loss of mobility, difficulty breathing, or a noticeable decline in quality of life. At Hold My Paws, our compassionate veterinarians offer a Quality of Life Assessment to help you better understand your pet’s needs and make an informed decision. This service allows us to assess your pet’s comfort and well-being, providing you with the guidance and support you need during this difficult time.
During the euthanasia appointment, your dedicated vet will administer a gentle injection, typically in a vein, allowing your pet to pass away peacefully and painlessly. Our goal is to ensure that you can say goodbye in a calm, comforting environment, surrounded by love. After your pet has passed away, we offer options for burial or cremation, respecting your wishes and honouring your pet’s memory with the dignity they deserve.

During an in-home pet euthanasia appointment, your dedicated vet will arrive at a pre-arranged time to support you through this difficult end-of-life experience. The vet will explain each step of the process to help you feel prepared and to make the experience as stress-free as possible for both you and your beloved pet.
Your pet will first receive a gentle sedation to ease any anxiety, allowing them to stay calm and comfortable in their favourite spot. Once they are completely relaxed, an additional medication is given through a catheter, helping them to peacefully pass away in your arms. This final step is typically very calm, and while there may be minimal signs, such as a twitch, it is a natural part of the process as your pet gently departs.
Afterward, we offer options for cremation or burial, and we can arrange respectful transport for your pet if needed. Our goal is to help you honour your pet’s memory and support you through this time of pet loss, ensuring your pet’s final moments are filled with peace and dignity.

Yes, we offer a range of aftercare options to help pet parents honour the memory of their beloved pet after an at-home euthanasia service. Following the peaceful pet euthanasia at home, you may choose to have your pet cremated, with options for individual or communal cremation. For individual cremation, your pet's ashes can be returned in an urn of your choice, allowing you to keep them close. For many pet owners, communal cremation offers a shared, respectful farewell alongside other beloved pets. If you prefer, we also provide options for a home burial, allowing you to bury your pet at home in a setting of your choosing.
In addition to cremation and burial services, we offer keepsakes, such as a clipping of your pet’s fur in a glass vial, as a comforting remembrance of your pet’s life. Our approach to euthanasia and aftercare is designed to support you through this difficult decision, ensuring your pet’s passing is handled with compassion and dignity.
